Join Dr. Bintrim (English), Dr. Clachar (Spanish), and Dr. Merry (Biology) for an information session to learn about a great service opportunity this semester at the Mission of Mercy health clinic in Pittsburgh, PA on October 27-28, 2023. We will lead a delegation of students to this annual clinic, which is a massive, transformative healthcare mission during which 1,000 volunteers provide free dental, optometry, and audiology services to 1,400 or more under-insured Pennsylvanians. Most students serve as lay volunteers, but those with EMT certifications or other professional credentials can play more specialized roles in the clinic. Students with a second language can serve as much-needed translators. Non-medical majors can serve in many areas, and no experience or prior knowledge is needed. SFU will provide housing and transportation from our Loretto campus, along with support from our faculty throughout the event. Students may be able to use their time at the clinic toward professional school requirements.
